How CraftMap works:

CraftMap will show you many boxes like this one:

Name of Item
(Name of Recipe)
Skillname

The way the boxes are ordered shows you which ingredients make which item:

Spaghetti Bolognese
(Pasta mixing)
Italian cooking
1.Cooked Spaghetti Noodles
2.Cooked Meat Sauce
3.Parmesan Cheese

"Spaghetti Bolognese" is the end-product and made by the recipe "Pasta mixing", which uses the "Italian cooking" skill.

This recipe requires three ingredients, numbered 1., 2. and 3.:

  1. Cooked Spaghetti Noodles
  2. Cooked Meat Sauce
  3. Parmesan Cheese

The same recipe (Pasta Mixing) would produce "Penne Bolognese", if you used "1. Cooked Penne Noodles" instead of "1. Cooked Spaghetti Noodles". Or it would produce "Spaghetti Carbonara", if you used "2. Sauce Carbonara" instead of "2. Cooked Meat Sauce". The CraftMap shows only the right ingredients you need for one specific end-product.

Now, let's have a look at how "Cooked Spaghetti Noodles" are made:

1.Cooked Spaghetti Noodles
(Boiling)
General cooking
1.1.Dry Spaghetti Noodles
1.2.Water
1.AAny Heat Source

Here you can see, that "1. Cooked Spaghetti Noodles" in turn are made by the recipe "Boiling", if you use "1.1. Dry Spaghetti Noodles" and "1.2. Water" as ingredients. So all boxes which are directly right of a bigger box, are actually ingredients for the recipe and item in that bigger box.

For this recipe you also need an agent, in this case a "Heat Source". This agent is not an ingredient in the recipe, but is required for making the recipe work. In this case the agent heats the water so you can boil the noodles. As you can see agents are indicated by a striped background, and by their number ending in ".A".

The word "Any" in front of "Heat Source" shows that there are multiple options for "Heat Source". On a real map simply click on the box to see all options available for this recipe and end-product.

Of course Cooked Meat Sauce has it's own recipe and ingredients too:

2.Cooked Meat Sauce
(Pasta Sauce)
Italian cooking
2.1.Minced Meat
2.2.Tomatoes

Yeah, you also need oregano, onions, red wine etc. - but let's keep this short and simple rather than accurate.

Now you have seen three separate item/recipe/ingredient combinations. What CraftMap does, is to put all those separate recipes together, to give you one big map showing everything, like this:

Spaghetti Bolognese
(Pasta mixing)
Italian cooking
1.Cooked Spaghetti Noodles
(Boiling)
General cooking
1.1.Dry Spaghetti Noodles
(Buy from store)
1.2.Water
(Kitchen: Tap)
1.AAny Heat Source
2.Cooked Meat Sauce
(Pasta Sauce)
Italian cooking
2.1.Minced Meat
(Meat Mincing)
Butchery
and so on, and so forth
2.2.Tomatoes
(Plant: Tomato)
3.Parmesan Cheese
(Buy from store)

And that's how CraftMap works. Now click on a skill from the menu on top, and see what items that skill can produce - then click on an item to see it's CraftMap.
